Preserving Memories of Black Life in Memphis - New York Times

For decades, the Hooks Brothers Studio recorded the lives, celebrations, challenges, and beauty of Black Memphis — weddings, graduations, portraits, everyday moments.

Now, thanks to a new partnership between Memphis Brooks Museum of Art and the National Civil Rights Museum, curators are sorting, digitizing and preserving more than 75,000 photos that form a visual history of community.
