    '); document.writeln('It’s been a century since Florence, Alabama, native W.C. Handy set up shop on a bustling Beale Street and wrote Memphis Blues, the composition that gave Memphis the right to lay claim to the music transplanted from the Mississippi Delta to Memphis.  That early hit presaged the golden age of Memphis music that was kicked off when another Florence native, Sam Philips, found his creative freedom as owner of legendary Sun Records where careers were launched for Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash.
