Arts and Culture

Memphis’ thriving arts community is one of our city’s greatest competitive advantages. We are one of the few mid-size American cities with a nationally recognized ballet, symphony, opera, museum system and private college of art.

The Hyde Family Foundations support arts and culture leaders who consistently deliver an outstanding product to Memphians and other audiences regionally and nationally.

Research continues to show that investments in arts and culture can influence youth development and the vitality of the regional and neighborhood economies, and can significantly improve the quality of community life. We are proud of our investments in these local assets and are pleased to share some of their outcomes.

The Business of the Arts
The economic impact of arts and cultural organizations in Memphis is more than $101 million. The arts industry supports 3,616 full-time jobs and generates $9 million in local and state government revenue.

Worldwide Impact
The National Civil Rights Museum is one of just 17 accredited International Site Museums of Conscience in the world, and the museum has hosted more than 2 million visitors.

Animal Magnetism
The Memphis Zoo was named the No. 1 zoo in America in 2008 by the popular travel website TripAdvisor.
