    Help GrowMemphis through Facebook contest

    Lindsey Brown - Action News 5 -

A Memphis nonprofit that works to create garden projects throughout the city is up for some big contest money through a facebook contest sponsored by Tom's of Main. It's called the "50 States for Good" Program and GrowMemphis is representing Tennessee.

Tom's of Maine manufactures natural ingredient based personal care products.

Non-profits around the country turned in community garden leadership programs and out of Tennessee, GrowMemphis was selected.

This is how it works :

GrowMemphis can win a share of $150,000 if you vote for the group at www.facebook.com/tomsofmaine now through October 9.

The "50 states for Good" program/contest seeks to uncover local nonprofit groups that address urgent community needs and engage volunteers to get the work done. GrowMemphis' Garden Leader Program that stands to win the money entails quarterly hands on workshops that will provide garden leaders the ability to build sustainable gardens in many communities.

The public vote will determine six winning organizations to share the $150,000 in funding. The organization with the most public support will receive $50,000 in sponsorship funding, while five organizations will each receive $20,000.

GrowMemphis currently has 27 member garden projects.
