Business Facilities names Memphis world’s best logistics market

Ed Arnold - Memphis Business Journal -

Business Facilities magazine has ranked Memphis No. 1 in metro and global logistics for the second straight year.

Calling Memphis “a global airport city,” the magazine points to the continued dominance of FedEx Corp. as Memphis’ main advantage, but also mentions a variety of infrastructure investments that it says will propel the city forward and keep it on top of the ranking.

Among them, the $56 million in funding to complete an outer highway access loop in the next two years to facilitate truck shipments and the plan to build out the Highway 78 corridor to connect Memphis to Interstate 22, improving access to Birmingham, Ala.

Memphis also ranked fifth in best cost of living, just above Cookeville, Tenn.

Elsewhere in Tennessee, Knoxville placed eighth on the magazine’s list of fastest growing cities and 10th for economic growth potential among markets with less than 450,000 employment.
