Freedom Prep is the first Building Excellent Schools Fellow school in Memphis and the only charter school in Southwest Memphis. Freedom Prep has shown tremendous academic gains in just 2 short years. The majority of students enter Freedom Prep at least 2 or 3 grade levels behind, but with structure, support, and intense instructional practices, students often show tremendous growth in a short amount of time. Our 7th graders improved 55% in Math on the TCAP in their 2nd year at Freedom Prep (scoring the same as students in the wealthiest county in TN). Students advance an average of 2 to 2 ½ academic years in one school year in Reading and Math on national norm exams.

Freedom Prep is looking for the following community support: in-kind donations of school supplies and college t-shirts (every Friday, Freedom Prep students wear college t-shirts instead of uniforms); financial support so more families have a choice in their child’s education; individuals to serve on the Board of Directors. Freedom Prep encourages educators or future educators to visit and consider applying – they are always looking for talented, mission-aligned, competent adults as teachers and instructional leaders.
