The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its opening this weekend.
The museum, which opened in September 1991, will host a community celebration on Saturday. Elected officials and community leaders are scheduled to make brief remarks.
The museum chronicles the history of the civil rights movement in the United States. It is located on the site of the former Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
Museum officials say the facility located in downtown Memphis has played host to 3.2 million visitors since it opened, including more than 430,000 children.
