Editorial: Working Together

- The Commercial Appeal -

Memphis' and Germantown's joint effort to create a united greenways trail system isn't the first time the two cities have worked together on a project.

Given the divisiveness emanating from the school system merger, it's important to remember that Memphis and its neighboring municipalities can and do work together on projects for the common good.

The two cities will work closely together this fall on a greenways project that will double the length of uninterrupted cycling and pedestrian trails available along the Wolf River.

Not to be confused with the Shelby Farms Greenline along the old CSX railroad bed, the Wolf River Greenway is a 10-foot-wide, multi-use paved trail that when eventually completed will run along the length of the Wolf River in Shelby County.

The Greenline and the Greenway are the types of amenities that set cities apart. They take advantage of the natural beauty of areas along the trails, and encourage healthy lifestyles and community interaction.

It's good to see the two cities recognizing the importance of working together to maximize those assets.
