By Aisling Maki - Memphis Daily News -

ArtsMemphis Thursday announced $158,100 in Enhancement Grants to 10 local arts organizations.

The funds are intended to broaden audiences and build long-term capacity.

Grant recipients are Africa in April; Concerts International; Germantown Community Theatre; Hattiloo Theatre; Memphis Brooks Museum of Art; Memphis Rock ‘N’ Soul Museum; Metal Museum; New Ballet Ensemble and School; Theatre Memphis; and the UrbanArt Commission.

Memphis Brooks Museum of Art will receive $36,000 to implement a mobile device integration project for the development of a mobile-friendly portal for its website and a customized app for iPhone and Android devices.

“People are increasingly using their mobile devices to access information and communicate with their friends, and thanks to this grant, the Brooks can be part of that conversation,” said Bob Arnold, grants manager for the Memphis Brooks Museum.

Hattiloo Theatre will receive $8,000 to purchase a portable stage to enhance outreach events and upgrade lighting equipment inside the theatre.

“Because of ArtsMemphis’ Enhancement grant, an upgraded lighting system will help us give audiences more professional looking shows, and new portable stages will enable us to produce more public performances,” said Hattiloo executive director Ekundayo Bandele.
