Grant Guidelines

The grantmaking of the Hyde Family Foundations is focused on supporting initiatives that empower people and programs dedicated to making measurable differences in the community, and on providing leadership on public policy issues that will help Memphis become a world-class, 21st century city.  We provide support to high-impact initiatives that focus on three distinct objectives:
  • Ensuring all kids have access to a great education;
  • Investing in the assets of our city that are unique to Memphis; and
  • Strengthening neighborhoods in the city’s urban core.
Each year, the Hyde Family Foundations actively support worthy nonprofit partners achieving results in these three key areas.

Established in 1961, the Hyde Family Foundations are a pair of philanthropic funds created by members of the Hyde family over a 48-year period, beginning with an initial $1 million investment by Joseph Hyde Sr. in 1961.  Today the assets of the Hyde Family Foundations total more than $120 million, and approximately $13 million is granted annually to groups dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Memphis area.

Our Program Interests
Although a large portion of our grantmaking is proactive and initiative-driven in nature, we will accept requests from 501(c)(3) organizations that serve the city of Memphis, Tennessee, or influence policy change at the statewide level.

Our current program interests include Transforming Education, Strengthening Neighborhoods, and Positioning Authentic Assets.
